The Conditioned Nervous System (PART 3)

A trauma-sensitive perspective on abuser/abused, victim/narcissist

This is part 3, please first refer to part 1 and part 2 before reading. (Click the highlighted link)

Last week I discussed the dynamics and conditioned responses of the nervous system that underpin pathological narcissism and create the dynamic between abuser and the abused.

Of course, there are many other factors aside from just the conditioned fight reflex that are embedded within the structure of narcissism, such as disturbances in the development of self representations and fractured psychic structures due to arrests in childhood individuation. Nonetheless, for reasons of understanding the dynamics the fundamentals are more important than the details in this case and it is not necessary to fully understand the finer details in order to heal or gain deeper insight.

This week I am going to discuss healing from narcissism and from narcissistic abuse.

My intention is not to offer a...

Healing as a Lifestyle

In the western world we have a very “quick fix” attitude which in my experience in my time in this field is one of the biggest blocks to transformation.

When we have a headache we take a paracetamol and our headache goes away, when our car breaks down we call roadside assist and they come almost instantly, when we don't know the answer to something we pull out our phone and quickly google it.

We have literally everything at our fingertips. This attitude of instant gratification is actually an obstacle when it comes to inner healing and transformation.

In our rush to “get somewhere” what happens is we lose the ability to trust and to let the natural and organic intelligence do the healing for us, in our belief that we are broken we essentially disconnect further from our essential wholeness.

Imagine now you are out in the garden pulling out weeds, you catch your hand on the edge of a sharp rock and it cuts it open. You rush inside and wash out the wound and...

HEALING MONEY TRAUMA & STRESS with Trauma-Informed Manifestation Coaching

I just wanted to start with a disclaimer, as we are talking about finances and money; I’m not a certified financial planner/advisor nor a certified financial analyst nor an economist nor a CPA nor an accountant or a lawyer. I’m not a finance professional through formal education. It is up to you to take responsibility for any financial decisions and seek advice from a qualified financial advisor or accountant.

For most of us, when we think about money, our bodies can start to become tense. This sensation in our body shows up as contraction and anxiety.

When we are in this contracted state, we are worried about letting the energy of money flow out, but most importantly flow in.

When we experience financial stress, it affects our deepest sense of security and safety in the world.

Money is a representation of our ability to have options and have our basic needs met.

When we don't have this resource, it can negatively...

What's the difference between Root-Cause Therapy and Trauma-Informed Manifestation Coaching?

Many people who find our work wonder where to start. Both of our flagship trainings, Root-Cause Therapy and Trauma-Informed Manifestation Coaching Certification. While both courses aim at healing trauma and blocks and fully resolving underlying issues causing us to have pain in our lives or stop us from achieving our goals, they’re also distinctly different in terms of one being therapy and the other coaching (that cross over to each other).

Here’s a short breakdown of the two:

Root-Cause Therapy

Root-Cause Therapy is the original method, created by Melissa Hiemann, used when The Centre for Healing opened its doors 7 years ago in Melbourne.  It was used to successfully treat addiction and mental health issues.

After seeing the results of thousands of clients pass through our doors, we decided to begin training practitioners in the method, understanding that there would always be a limit on how much we could do ourselves.

What is Trauma-Informed Manifestation Coaching?

 What is Trauma-Informed Manifestation Coaching?

Well, let’s start with, what manifestation is…

Manifestation is the process that is happening all the time for all of us. We are constantly manifesting what we want and don't want into our current experience. With our thoughts, emotions, visions and expectations, we are creating our own reality and allowing what we have or don’t have in it.

I say "allow", because in past experiences, conditioning, family values and belief systems (red flags from our nervous system) we can limit how much ‘good’ or how much of what we want into our experience. (I learnt this the hard way!).

This is where being trauma-informed comes into play.

When we think about manifestation, which is thinking about and taking action towards what we want... the only part of us that would stop that is our human selves, our ancient nervous systems. Our nervous systems are geared towards safety and survival. It has...

What is Root-Cause Therapy?

Root-Cause Therapy is a powerful style of therapy that assists people in getting to the root cause of their current presenting symptoms.

Do you or your clients experience negative self-talk, unhelpful habits and behaviours or perhaps PTSD and procrastination from low self-belief because of painful events in the past or anxieties and worries about the future?

It’s time to not only talk about the issues - but to start to heal them on a deeper level where real long term change is possible.

The power of this method lies in the way that it works on all levels of our minds. The conscious mind, so you reading this now and the unconscious mind - where our automatic learnt behaviours and bottled up emotions reside.

Unlike hypnosis, which can create a fear of lack of control and unlike talk therapy which can leave you feeling worse with a long-time frame to create change in behaviours and thoughts - this type of healing creates a space for you to unravel why you do,...

Trauma & Spirituality

There comes a time in this work when we start to ponder;
If i'm not my habits or routines?
If I'm not my traumas?
If I'm not my mental & emotional patterns?
If I'm not what happened to me?
Then.......Who am I??

Here we find the undeniable link between Trauma Healing & Spirituality.

One of the most crucial parts of this journey is realising parts of us will fall away.
A lot of people get stuck at this point as they're consciously wanting change however the pain of an old 'part' dying is too great and so the process stops.

We're always unconsciously trying to 'hold' our identity together.

Letting go is scary but true transformation sits on the other side of it.

As Matt puts it:
"There's a you that desperately wants to go to the beach so you embark on the journey. But going to the beach requires transformation, so by the time you get to the beach the part of you that wanted to go had to die off........the journey of spirituality isn't one of getting anywhere"

What to do when your clients/patients cannot sleep

We naturally want the best for our clients, and when we cannot help them in a particular area it can become frustrating for them and ourselves.

When we think about sleep, we understand that there is a huge importance in the quality and consistency needed to achieve a restful night's sleep. As you may have experienced for yourself, not having enough sleep can negatively affect your mental health as well as ability to concentrate and be patient with others.

If a lack of quality sleep turns into an on-going issue of chronic sleep deprivation it can greatly impact someone’s life as a whole. Conversely, some people have had issues sleeping their whole lives and are somewhat used to being able to function on broken or little sleep, not realizing there is a solution for them.

At The Centre for Healing we are of the belief that everyone deserves good sleep and that it is not natural for someone to a) not be able to get to sleep or b) wake frequently creating...
